Heute gibt es ein Foto, welches ich am 20. Mai 2018 aufgenommen habe. Es ist der Wasserturm von Alcatraz, dem US State Prison.
Alcatraz ist eine Insel in der Bucht von San Francisco.
Von 1934 bis 1963 befand sich dort eines der damals bekanntesten und berüchtigtsten Hochsicherheitsgefängnisse der USA.
Heute kann man es besichtigen und sich einen Eindruck von den damaligen Bedingungen machen, denen die Gefangenen ausgesetzt sind.
Mit dem Wasserturm und den darauf befindlichen Graffities hat es folgende Bewandtnis:
1969 besetzten 89 Mitglieder der „IOT“ (Indianer aller Stämme) die verlassene Insel Alcatraz neunzehn Monate lang, vom 20. November 1969 bis zum 11. Juni 1971.
Ideelle und materielle Unterstützung gab es u. a. von den Musikern der Rockband Creedence Clearwater Revival. n dabei käme. Am 11. Juni 1971 riegelte die US-Küstenwache die Insel ab, und etwa FBI-Agenten brachten die verbliebenen indianischen Aktivisten, ohne auf Widerstand zu stoßen, aufs Festland.

Alcatraz is an island in San Francisco Bay.
From 1934 to 1963, it housed one of the most famous and notorious maximum-security prisons in the United States at the time.
Today, visitors can tour the site and get a sense of the conditions the prisoners were subjected to back then.
The story behind the water tower and the graffiti on it is as follows:
In 1969, 89 members of the “IOT” (Indians of All Tribes) occupied the abandoned island of Alcatraz for nineteen months, from November 20, 1969, to June 11, 1971.
Moral and material support came from, among others, the musicians of the rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. On June 11, 1971, the U.S. Coast Guard sealed off the island, and FBI agents brought the remaining Native American activists to the mainland without encountering any resistance.
